Janet Hyden has taught high school English classes in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area since 1976. In 1984, she agreed to pilot a new technical communication course for the Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development and spent a week studying technical writing at the University of Michigan College of Engineering. Frustration over the lack of high school-level teaching materials led her to coauthor the first edition of Communicating for Success in 1994. Since then, Janet has conducted several training workshops for teachers. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Janet, along with Mary Helen Steinauer, is a contributing author of Expanding Literacies: English Teaching and the New Workplace, edited by M. S. Garay and S.A. Bernhardt (State University of New York Press).
Ann K. Jordan is the Career Development Manager for the Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development, which encompasses 36 school districts in southwestern Ohio. She oversees career development programs and funds for nearly 115,000 K?12 students. Ann is active in Ohio's Career Education Association, currently serving as chair of the state conference and as board of trustees member. She also has served as president. She was awarded Ohio's Outstanding Career Coordinator in 1999. In addition, Ann is active in the Ohio ACTE organization, working with professional development, public relations, and the Student Services division. She also has coauthored Discovering Your Career and Investigating Your Career for Thomson/South-Western.
Mary Helen Steinauer is a board member of the Ohio Council of Teachers of English Language Arts (OCTELA), the largest state affiliate of NCTE, and has served as its treasurer since 1999. She was curriculum and instruction supervisor of English and Technical Communication at Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development until retiring in 1999 and was a board member and president of the Ohio Vocational Association (now Ohio ACTE). Mary Helen, along with Janet Hyden, is a contributing author of Expanding Literacies: English Teaching and the New Workplace, edited by M. S. Garay and S.A.
